Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh recieved his B.Tech (Chemical Engineering) in fist division with distinction from Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sitapur Road Lucknow in 2002, his M.Tech (Chemical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 2004 and his PhD in 2014 from Indian Institute of Technology; Delhi on “Studies on Carbon Nanotubes based Epoxy Composites”. After completing M.Tech, he joined CSIR-NPL as Scientist B in 2004. Presently he is working in Advanced Carbon Products Section of Advanced Materials and Devices Division as a Senior Scientist.
Dr. Singh’s research interest is on large scale synthesis of carbon nanostructures and their advanced nanocomposites for structural applications, anode materials for Li-ion batteries and efficient EMI shielding materials. He has significantly contributed in creating a facility for large scale synthesis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes using catalytic chemical vapour deposition and developed variety of CNT based composites of significant improved physical and chemical properties. He has also made significant contribution in the product development based on carbon nanotubes. One of the US patent on the synthesis of SWCNTs has been granted and three no. of patents on CNT based composites have been filed. He has also carried out exhaustive studies on mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of MWCNTs and graphene based polymer composites. Presently he is focusing on establishment of continuous process for the preparation of oriented CNT fiber/yarn and sheets for personal armour applications.
Dr. Singh teaches the Masters and Ph.D. level course on Engineering Materials in AcSIR. More than twenty students have done their dissertation work for their M.Tech/M.Sc/B.Tech degree under his supervision/co-supervision. Currently four PhD students are working under him.
Dr. Singh has published more than 88 research articles in high impact factor Journals i.e. Journal of Material Chemistry A, Nanoscale, Carbon, Journal of Power Sources, Electrochimica Acta, RSC Advances etc. These articles are also highly cited (total citations > 2682 with h-index of 28, i10 index of 53 and m-index of 2.3 as per google scholar data). He has recently published one co-authored book on “Carbon Nanomaterials: Synthesis, Structure Properties and Applications” and has also published 4 chapters in books.
He is the recipient of CSIR-Young Scientist Award 2015 in Engineering Sciences and HEAM Young Scientist 2014 Award by Indian Association of Hydrogen Energy and Advanced Materials. His eight papers have been awarded as best paper awards in different national and international conferences. He is the member of editorial board of Journal of Nanomaterials and Journal of Composite and Constituent Materials. His biography has been listed in the 2014 Edition of “Marquis Who’s Who” in the World. He is the executive member of Indian Carbon Society and Life member of Materials Research Society of India, The Society for Polymer Science, India. He is the regular reviewer of various high impact factors international journals i.e. Nanoscale, ACS Applied Materials and Interphases, J of Material Chemistry C, RSC Advances, Nanoscale Research Letters, etc. He has delivered several invited talks in various reputed institutes i.e. CSIR Foundation Day Lecture on “Carbon Nanotubes-Carbon Fiber Hybrid Polymer Composites for Structural Applications” at CSIR-CMERI, CoEFM, Ludhiana on 05-10-2016, Invited Talk on “Carbon Fiber Reinforcement and Carbon Carbon Composites” on DST Short Term Course on Materials and Processes for High Temperature Applications at IIT Roorkee on 08-06-2016 etc., Invited talk on “Carbon nanotubes: Synthesis and application in Li-ion batteries”, on 10-01-2014, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun etc. He has also been interviewed on the famous Eureka Programm of Rajya Sabha TV.
